2009 - November
Stefano Bollani had a residence at King's Place in North London during the London Jazz Festival. I was able to make it to the last two nights.
Many thanks to Olwen Richards, Serious, and King's Place for cooperation.
Saturdary 21st November - Stefano Bollani and Visionari - a sellout, outrageously good performance by this quintet. Any one there was lucky! I know I was... Images at Stefano Bollani and Visionari at King's Place.
Friday 20th Bollani performed with Antonello Salis. An inventive, witty and enthralling evening. Images from rehearsal and sound check can be seen at: Stefano Bollani and Antonello Salis - King's Place.
2009 - October
A great concert by the new Tord Gustavsen Ensemble at the Royal Northern College of Music. For images click on Tord Gustavsen Ensemble at the RNCM...
2009 - September
KING'S PLACE FESTIVAL '09 - King's Place is North London's most significant Music and Arts complex. The second King's Place Festival ran from September 4-6 2009.
performance - Images from the performance set can be seen by clicking on the link: Kings' Place Festival '09. A great three days of poetry, performance, music and discussion. The biggest cultural smörgåsbord in London!
rehearsals - Images from a documentation of the rehearsal phase can be seen by clicking on the following link: King's Place Festival, the rehearsal phase. They're very different from performance work, closer, more risky, somehow closer to the heart of the making of the music.
2009 - April
The Mathias Eick Quartet played at the Vortex in East London on the 28th April. Two great sets played to a packed house. Photos can be seen at: Mathias Eick at the Vortex.
2009 - March
ECM records celebrated forty years of music making with a series of concerts at King's Place, London between 18-22 March 2009. I was very pleased to be invited to document the series. The label has provided a sound track to my adult life - I can't imagine what I'd have been listening to without Manfred Eicher's inspired work. A documentation of each concert can be found at ECM at 40. I hope my contribution here is a fitting tribute to the achievement of the artists and the company which has brought their music to us. My thanks also to Serious who curated the week - John Cummings and his colleagues did a brilliant job.
2008
Back at the RNCM for a concert by the Bobo Stenson Trio (Bobo Stenson - piano, Anders Jormin - double-bass, Jon Falt - drums). A good evening. Pictures can be seen at: Bobo Stenson Trio at the RNCM.
Enrico Rava and Stefano Bollani played at the Royal Northern College of Music in April 2008. A witty, elegant performance which they enjoyed as much as we did. Images can be seen at Enrico Rava and Stefano Bollani at the RNCM.
This set of images of the John Abercrombie Quartet was taken at the Bielsko-Biala Festival in 2005. I'm delighted that ECM have used black and white versions for the liner of the The Quartet's latest CD (The Third Quartet).
John Surman played at the Wigmore Hall alongside bassist Chris Laurence and the Trans4mation string quartet. I was there for the rehearsal. Images can be found at: John Surman at the Wigmore Hall
The Alan Weekes' Jazz Diaspora were playing at the Baltic on Blackfriar's Road. Good music from a great trio. More images can be seen at: Jazz Diaspora at the Baltic
My son Bill's in a new band called Real Feal. They performed in a pub off Roseberry Avenue in October 2008. Some snaps can be seen at: Real Feal

Bill and Mamiko, my son and daughter-in-law are in a band called Infants. They were playing at Artrocker in Islington, London, last week. A good set. To see more images go to Infants at Artrocker. They have a myspace spot you can visit - check out Infants
2005
I was invited to provide a photographic documentation of Tomasz Stanko's Jazz Festival at Bielsko-Biala. Acts included Manu Katché’s Neighbourhood band, with Trygve Seim substituting for Jan Garbarek, Louis Sclavis, and the John Abercrombie Quartet, as well as the Stanko Quartet and the Simple Acoustic Trio of Marcin Wasilewski, Slawomir Kurkiewicz and Michal Miskiewicz. A small selection of images from this event can be seen at the links to Jazz at Bielsko-Biala.
The Hilliard Ensemble and Jan Garbarek played in Warsaw on 11 October to a packed house. I was able to take some concert photographs for ECM records. A small selection from this work can be found at the Hilliard Ensemble and Jan Garbarek link.
2004
I went to the Tord Gustavsen Trio concert at the Purcell Rooms in London (May 2004). The images you can see at the concert photos link were all taken during the performance. A selection of these photographs will be used in the booklet for the Trio's ECM CD "The Ground".
The Tomasz Stanko Quartet recently performed in Warsaw. A selection of images from the rehearsals and open air concert can be seen at Tomasz Stanko in Warsaw. More images of the Quartet at work can be seen in Fabryka Rehearsals. These were taken during the recent Tomasz Stanko festival in Warsaw.
